Rifled 20 guage sabot question

Hi all, I have a H&R Ultra Slug Hunter im 20 guage. Heavy barrel, single shot, rifled, etc.
Great gun, I like it very much. This my deer gun.

I have been shooting the Hornady SST sabots.

My question is, what sabots have you found to be best in your similar shotgun? Lightfield? Remington? Hornady?

For what its worth, I also have a Nikon Prostaff 2x7 on it.

Federal 3"

I can't recall the name of the load. All 2 3/4" sabot loads shoot like absolute garbage from my H&R. Those Federal 3" are the only thing I have found that it likes, and it likes them quite well!

We sighted in my father's 20 guage with rifled barrel. Tried several types to compare. hornady SST came out on top for accurracy by a long shot.

Two most accurate tested (12ga though) were Hornady SST and Remington Accu-tip.

Interesting side note, the SST is the only sabot I tried that also shoots very well in smooth-bore guns, at least at smooth-bore distances. I never tried it at the extended ranges promised by sabots.

Hornady SST, but in a 12 gauge.

AeroEngineer, I used to have the lightweight 12 guage version. It was too unpleasant to shoot. It was so light that the recoil brought the muzzle up, instead of back. My scope hit me in the forehead every time lol. I traded it in for the heavy barrel 20. I agree though, that was a very accurate shotgun.

Willie, a guy at work actually said the same thing... To use 3". Is it because of that extra little space a 2 3/4" leaves me in the breach throws off accuracy? I also have never seen any sabots in the store in 3". But I might start looking a little harder.

Most slugs are available in 3". I've never seen the need. Lots of recoil, no better effect or accuracy. I don't think the SSTs come in 3" but I know Remington Accu-Tips do. Totally unnecessary IME.
