The top gun in the picture is a Freedom Arms small frame M97 in .44 Spcl with a 5 1/2" bbl. The bottom gun is a FA M97 .45 Colt with a 3 1/2" bbl and a round butt. Both have to me handled to be appreciated.

The top gun is a 386 but I have it's brother (396 in .44 Spcl). It is a handful with any load approaching 1,000 fps. The bottom gun is the above pictured FA M97 .45 Colt.

I have a clean credit card and GAS,,,
Gun Acquisition Syndrome.

Perhaps a .44 Special is in my future.

Ruger Bisley 44 Special. Fabulous. Most of the revolvers listed above can't safely push a 240gr SP to 1200fps.

I feel your pain my friend,,,
I'm 59 and single with a professional income,,,
It is only in the past 6 years that I have attained this status.

While I don't have a tremendous amount of disposable money,,,
It is nice to know that if I do see something that I like,,,
I no longer have to take anyone else into account.

I'll definitely have my list and my eyes wide open,,,
I'll probably not buy any guns there though,,,
I haven't seen a "deal" at a gun show,,,
At least not in recent years.

I go to see/handle guns I can never find anywhere else,,,
What I usually find/buy is accessory items,,,
And occasionally I will find a holster.

But what the heck,,,
Whatever I decide to buy,,,
I'll dedicate that purchase to you.

Can a 44 sp shoot 44 mag?

Is it like the 357/38?

That S&W blued 2inch model 24 is amazing.

The .44 Magnum is longer than the .44 Special.

You can shoot .44 Special cartridges in a .44 Magnum handgun,,,
Not the other way around.

In addition to the ones below, a Colt SAA, USFA Rodeo and Sheriff, EMF SAA, Smith & Wesson 696 prelock, 24 5" custom cut, 28 4" Clements Custom conversion, 624 4", several older 3" Charter Arms, Ruger Blackhawk, Blackhawk .357 converted and probably a couple of others that don't come to mind right now.

I went to the gun show at the Tulsa fairgrounds this Saturday,,,
Had a good time wandering the aisles and sniffing gun oil.

The only .44 special revolvers I saw were,,,
An older well worn Charter Bulldog,,,
And a nice S&W Model 24,,,
Like in post #4.

The Charter was just beat up,,,
He only wanted $225 for it,,,
But the gun was worn out.

The man was very proud of his S&W Model 24,,,
It had a teeny bit of blue wear at the muzzle,,,
And just a slight turn ring on the cylinder,,,
He wanted $895.00 for the gun.

So, I guess I'll just have to do without a .44 Special for awhile.
$895.00 might not be a bad price for that model revolver,,,
But it's more than I am willing to pay for one.

Oh well,,,

yeah, when we're talking about used guns they don't make anymore, you have to have patience to find the right deal, snatch it when you see it, and have several choices not knowing what will come your way first...

You can't pay too much for a good gun, you can only pay it too early. That's more than I would pay also, but then again I would have said the same about a price half that size a few years ago and I've paid much more many times and happy I did. Inflation is accelerating.

You are correct my friend,,,
The Ruger SA revolvers are fine handguns,,,
But I tend to gravitate towards the three or four inch DA/SA revolvers.

I have three very fine SA revolvers,,,
I hardly ever shoot them anymore.

For the last two seasons I have been trying to master DA shooting,,,
Even with those I try not to do too much SA shooting,,,
I watched a Jerry Miculek video and got hooked.

If one buys a .44 Special, why would they want to do that? That is what .44 Magnums are for.

The standard load I use is 6.9 of Unique, Winchester large Pistol primer and a 245 grain home- cast bullet. It does not need anything faster than that. It is a connoisseur's gun.

. I personally load mine with the Skeeter load of 7.5g of Unique. That's around 1000fps and very accurate. The Keith load pushes 1200fps (don't need, so haven't used). .44Mag territory is 'above' the wimpy (just kidding) 1200fps load... Say 1300, 1400 fps.... Now your talking .44Mag.

Aarond, I understand... I went the other direction and sold off my DAs and all I have is Single Actions

.... With exception of my CC CA .44Spec Bulldog that is! You ought to pick up Ed's book if you are trying to master the DA revolver.
