It's a favorite of mine to. Especially in my carbines, I have a Marlin 1894 SS and a Ruger 77\357. I also have six revolvers in. 357 mag.

My favorite as well; several revolvers and a carbine. Shoots good to excellent in all. Easy to reload.

I'm always the odd man out on this topic.
I have little to no use for the .357mag.
having said that,,,,

I believe the .357 mag is the single most versatile caliber there is.
Little to nothing comes close to it in that regard.
It's at home in anything from a tiny pocket revolver to a long barreled lever action.

My lack of use for the caliber stems only from the fact that I don't really care for the guns it's chambered for.
The only two that come close are the S&W Model 19 & my Cowboy II Marlin.
Even those never see .357 mag loads. I prefer to shoot .38 spl in them.

My favorite as well. I load them up so slow you can watch the bullets fly(sometimes when the lighting is right), and nice and hot for hunting. Great round with many fine choices of guns.

I, for one, like the cartridge and the guns that are chambered for it. Most .357 Magnums are mid-sized revolvers that don't require the larger and heavier frames of the .44~.45 revolvers. Unfortunately Ruger dropped the mid-size frame with the coming of the New Models, but understand the New Model Flat Tops are mid-sized.

Here is one of two Three Screw Models I found, for $200 each, advertised in the want ads. It had the Ruger Conversion added, which I was able to replace.

The other was converted to .44 Special, but have done very little to this one, except to fit a steel grip frame and ejector rod housing and replace the conversion unit.

Bob Wright

P.S. The steel grip frame was fitted in my shop and cold blued, pending further professional wok on the gun. Still waitiing for that to happen. And the grips that came on the gun were badly worn and cracked, these are take-offs from another Ruger. Expect to replace these in the future with something from CaryC.

I love the .357 magnum as well! Short of grizzly (which I don't live anywhere near), with it I know I'm well protected and prepared. Having the option of also shooting .38 special is also comforting.

I have a 6" ss GP100 and a 77/357 and love them!

Ah, yes, let me not forget this .357 Magnum, a Colt Single Action Army (Really). The grips are one-piece style I made myself, the rear sight is from a Smith & Wesson Model 27, the fronf sight is a Ruger Blackhawk. The backstrap is brass from a Colt 1851 Navy

And, concerning DA revolvers, a few Smiths in the Navy caliber:

Yes, you might say I do like the .357

While I do love the .357 magnum, I really don't shoot it that often.
I like the .357 from a heavy 4" barrel revolver, like my Ruger GP100.
Unfortunately, such a handgun is not that great for concealed carry...it has a rather poor weight-to-rounds ratio (I would rather carry my XD45 with 13+1 rounds).
I don't like .357 snubbies at all.

A Coonan 1911 and a carbine lever action in .357 magnum makes a nice little woods combo.
So does a model 19, or a security six, or a Colt Trooper III, or a model 28 Smith, but some of you fellas are plainly out of control!

That reminds me of a shooting case awhile back that took place in Memphis. The "self defense" was ruled "voluntary manslaughter". The judge's remark was that the first three or four rounds could be considered self defense, the remaining eight or so, not so.

Who loves the 357 mag?

It's a great caliber. I love to shoot 165 gr. 357 in my Ruger LCR. Hang on tight and press the trigger.

I too love the versatility. I can load hot or light 357 or 38, shot shell, etc. Pretty hard to beat.

My 2 inch DAO SP101 is my favorite handgun. I do carry automatics too as the mood strikes, but short of capacity that ole 357 magnum sure is hard to beat.

The 357 mag is my all time favorite. Powerful, versatile, accurate, easy to load for and great for carry.

I only have 4 ....... My new favorite carry gun though is another 357.... the Sig..

...asking a question like "who loves the 357" is like asking "who likes race tuned V8s" or "who likes bacon". Who could not love the .357?

With that being said, Hulley you're going to love that SP101. I have shot one similar many times and it throws the biggest fireballs...it always manages to put a smile on my face.

All of the foregoing reminds me of the Ruger advertisement years ago when the .357/9mm convertible was introduced:

"There is no where in the world you can go and not find ammunition for it."

I like it a lot and it is what sits in my nightstand. It is a very versatile cartridge that is fun to shoot. It is an effective self defense round, powerful enough to take into the woods, can be used from a rifle, can be downloaded for new shooters or just cheap plinking, and it is easy to load for.

Did I mention it was just plain fun to shoot?
