That serial number puts it as a post World War II gun, likely well into the 1950s.

Value will depend on the specific model and also the area of the country you're in. In some areas Savages are more highly valued than in other areas (the same is true of most guns).

Welcome to TFL !

If that M99 has it's front receiver ring D/T'd for a scope, depending upon it's 50's DOM, it may have been altered after it left the factory.

IIRC, Savage didn't start the scope prep until sometime around 1955.

If it has the holes, and they're not factory, the gun would have little value to a collector, but still make a good hunting rifle.

The DOM, expressed as the Savage Date Code Letter, should be stamped inside a circle near or on the receiver's lever boss (aka: Lever Boss Code); starting with an "A" in 1949, then "B", "C", etc, etc.

I sold a pristine/unmolested .300 Savage M99EG last year for appreciable money - A .250 would have brought a lot more, since the .250's have been "hot" lately.

FWIW, Savage99.com doesn't SN date guns made after 1951.

One source I have seen says Savage began the factory drill & tap in 52-53. One easy way to tell if it is factory is if the holes go through the markings on the receiver.

When Savage began the factory drill & tap, they moved the marking from the top of the receiver to the side.

It depeneded on the specific model as to when Savage began to D&T the 99 for scope mounts.
