trapdoor sight

hi i have a 1873 trap which was cut down a long time ago and a homemade front sight put on it (its not bad for home made ),it is i/2 " from barrel to top of sight my problem is if you imagine a clock i.m aiming dead center (at 50 yds ) and hitting the #5 on it .
what can i do to get it closer to poa ?.
i handload 405grn fp for it in 45.70 with various powders and charges but no go as far as "getting closer" to what im looking at down the barrel please help
thanks and have a great sunday.adrians

Shorten the front sight to raise POI. Drift the sight in the direction of POI to move the opposite direction.
