Remington 1100 Failure to Feed

Details:

1970's era 1100 that is not consistently feeding the second round. After the first round, the bolt locks back and the second round is still in the magazine. This does not happen every time.

Any suggestions on what needs fixing?

Thanks!

Shell latch or cutoff worn. Would bet on the feed latch cam being worn.

It could be something to do with the Interceptor Latch. This is the one on the right side, when you have the receiver upside down, and the trigger guard out, with the stock facing you. It is riveted in place. It's function is to control the shell that will feed onto the carrier, when the bolt goes back far enough. However, first clean the gun well, and replace the O-Ring on the piston that slides over the magazine tube. If it short cycles, it may not feed a round onto the carrier, and it has to do this for the bolt to close. You might also need to clean the hole out, that goes into the barrel from inside the barrel ring (the gas port). The port can get carbon build up, and cause one to short cycle. Most gun dealers sell the O-Rings, so buy a package, and give it a good cleaning, then try it first.

That cures about 99% of the problems that arise with 1100's

The bolt locking to the rear indicates bolt cycle completion but the mag didn't release the next round. The incoming round releases the carrier and the bolt..
