9mm.

Zillions of models, cheaper ammo, they make the P226, CZ75 and 5906 in it

Thought I'd throw some humor put there. .22 has to be my favorite auto round. If I was a wealthier man, .40.

40S&W - It combines the higher capacity of a 9mm with the same energy as a 45... and it all fits in a 9mm sized pistol.

My favorite is the 7.62x25. I wish it were more common and chambered in a Beretta 92 that would be Sweet ! ! !

.50 AE for hoots and giggles
.45 ACP for serious fun and winter carry
.40 S&W for when I want a polymer gun and don't want to carry my compact 1911
.380 (older Walther PPK) almost every day carry.
5.7 X 28 for open carry

I find the 9MM weak. I prefer a 45acp myself.

Do I really have to choose just 1? If I do, it must be the 9x19mm. I just happen to shoot it extremely well. After that its very close to a .40S&W. I have never been a huge fan of the .45 ACP, but it is fun to shoot a classic Colt 1911. I choose the 9mm because with today's technologies and designs, I am totally confident with the relatively light bullet. I can carry more rounds, it has a lower recoil, and some of the HP bullets perform extremely well.

Don't pick on the little guy now. In a 1 second timed string, I can get 4 rounds of 9mm on target where my buddy can only get 1 round of .45 ACP on target in the same string. We are both the same size and weight. He can slow fire well, but when it comes to rapid fire, he is at a disadvantage. Each caliber has its purpose I believe.

I'll await the flying tomatoes and go with .40S&W
I shoot it well, and call me crazy, but I actually like the short recoil.
.45ACP is my hands down CLOSE second. I actually think tho that it's my preference for the 1911 platform than anything else there though.

Good rule: ensure you show up to a gunfight with a handgun whose caliber begins with a 4.

I find the 9mm weak as well. I own handguns in several other calibers, including .45, .357, .380, and .22. I still choose the 9mm as my favorite. It's cheap to feed, with good ammo its almost as effective as a .45, and I find I can make accurate hits faster with it. Yes, I can shoot a .45 or .357 just as well as I do a 9mm during slow fire. But speed fire drills make the 9mm shine. Follow up shots are just plain faster. Thats why it got my vote.

My favorite? Well I have at least one of each in .17, .22, .25, .380, .327, .38, .40, .45 and .454. and shoot them all at least six times per year with the exception of the .454. They are all my favorites but the most fun to shoot, IMO, are the .22's.. The one that gets the most attention at the range is the Raging Bull, but is definitely not fun for most people to shoot.

I agree.
While its sharp and snappy its also overwith quickly.
The longer seemingly harder push of a 45 in a 1911 is more unsettling to my aim, grip and follow-ups.
I shoot my little Glock 27 more rapidly-n-accurately than I can a 1911, its just not as fun or easy on the hand.
