Multi Purpose .45 ACP load

normaly I carry around here for 4 legged problems (coyotes, feral dogs, cougars etc) with 2 legged critters as a secondary consideration, but since we're on a meth smuggling line now, we're seeing more and more "issues" comeing out of that and I am looking for recommendations for a load that would be a good balance between the two types of situations. any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

My two favorites:

Oregon Trail Laser Cast 230 gr. LRN.
Starline brass.
WLP primer

5 gr. Bullseye
-or-
6.5 gr. Unique

Very accurate, very reliable, general purpose loads.

I prefer a good 230gr JHP for meth heads. but for a compromize I would suggest a full power 200gr LSWC, they tend to flatten out rather nicely. they are not as pricey. I seem to remember reading somewhere that JWB first used a 200gr bullet for his .45ACP

180 gr JHP over 7.7 gr of Unique. Fast, flat, and very effective for serious social situations.

Who is JWB???? If you mean John Moses Browning (JMB), I believe he used a 210 gr bullet in the 1905 45 caliber auto pistol, but the military specified a 225 gr minimum for the 1908 trials IIRC.

Scorch, I had read some threads and articles about issues with HP and animals. is there any reason to go with a bullet that light and JHP? I thought heavier bullets would be more effective against 4 legged critters.

I'll try out both the lazer cast and the LSWC to see how well they feed. thanks for the tips gents.

Generally, yes, you would want a heavier bullet. However, none of the animals you listed is particularly hard to kill. If you want something a bit heavier, look at the Hornady 200 gr CTP (combat truncated point) over 7.0 gr of Unique. It's better than hardball and faster to boot.

Remington 230gr Golden Saber, 6.1-6.5 grains of Unique performs well in my 45's using RP brass and RP 2 1/2 primers.
