How much is this Ruger Mark 2 worth?

Edited to add: I passed on it.
http://thefiringline.com/forums/showthread.php?t=517887

It's a Ruger Mark 2 (which I like because it doesn't have an internal lock) with adjustable sights.

The guy is asking $750, but there aren't any bidders so I'm assuming it's on the high side. What say you?

Out of my league. Is there something special about this particular one?

Can't see the picture, but I own a Stainless Bull barreled MKII, and when new it was under $400. MKII commonly go for $350-$600 from what I had seen. I am aware of a couple of variants that may be more, but unless it is one of those, $750 is way too much for it.

It's a Mark 2 which isn't made anymore. It also doesn't have the internal lock which means no key hole. Nor does it have the magazine disconnect or loaded chamber indicator.

It has adjustable sights with a short barrel which is somewhat unusual. And it's stainless.

I like all the above features.

I used to own a bull barrelled model and didn't like it.

This particular speciman is a four inch tapered barrel. It's just like Rugers "Standard" except it's stainless and has adjustable sights.

Than I would diffenently say $750 is over priced for a standard, blued, tapered barrel MKII. Price is usually high for the feautes I have on mine, adjustable sight, stainless, and bull barrel. Also higher for 6inch barreled, slab sided barrel, or after market upgrades. Standard is standard, the variants with added features are what adds value. At least INHO.

I recently missed out on the same gun in basically the same condition. My LGS wanted $300 for it with only 1 mag and no box. They now have a blued mkII for $259 in great which has not sold in about a month. Maybe is waiting for me?

Is that a Davidson's or Lipsey special edition? I haven't seen a Standard MKII that came from the factory with an adjustable sight.

Add $ for factory installed Ruger adjustable sight.
Add $ for stainless steel.

I'd put it around $375 - $425 tops, but in this market I've seen crazier stuff.

If that's in "great" condition, viz. no rust or pits, I would jump on it. The same gun on gunbroker is going for $350 starting price.

Thats way,way to much $$$$ . I pick up a Mark 2 competition Target slab side with a 6 in. barrel USED for $400 .It came with the orgian paper + boxes. The man never shot it much ,saids he cant shoot it well. The front sight was a tad loose. hehehe ,my gain.. I did have to change the front sight set screw....

$750. is way too high for that gun. Even with original box, papers and extra mags it's too high. Unless there is something special about it that we don't see, like an Air Force training gun or it belonged to Ernest Borgnine, etc.

Ruger did offer adjustable sights on it's Mark II Target Variation guns both the blued and the stainless. It offered them on bull and standard barrels. If the text of the ad did not point out a special feature I don't see anything particularly collectable about it. But then I'm no expert on Rugers. Could be an unusual barrel length for the additional features, but still.

The Mark IIs show up regularly on the used gun market and a good clean one can be had in the $300 to $400 dollar range easily.

NOT ALL THAT LONG AGO, I paid $400.00 for a blued one like that in it's box. I do not believe a SS version is worth all that much more.
Maybe I am wrong....was wrong once in '66 and have not heard the end of that yet.

$350 max

For $750 you can find S&W model 41s used in great shape.

There is no comparison between the 2 handguns.

I think it is an unusual barrel length for a "Target" model with adjustable sights, and being stainless it will command a few more bucks, but yes it is way overpriced. I'd pay $350 it maybe, but I have four MK II's already, so I'm not really motivated to pay top dollar.

If he gets anywhere's close to $750 for it, I want the name of the purchaser cause I got a stainless and a blue just like it.

$350 tops around these parts.

There's one exactly like it for sale in my local classifieds for $350. I wouldn't give much more than that unless you find a target or hunter model. You can get a new target stainless mk III w/ a 5.5" bull barrel for around $500 out the door.

I wouldn't pay a dime more for a Mk II than I would for a brand new MK III just like it. They're just not worth any more. I own both.

I just paid $299.00 for a used MK III, 5.5" bull barrel, with box and papers, from a dealer, not a private sale. I might have paid $350.00 for the stainless one. No more.

Don't have a picture of my bull barrel with me but I paid $240 out the door for this one.

Well, I think the MK II is worth a premium over the MK III just to avoid the LCI, mag disconnect, and internal lock. Plus, on a target or plinking pistol I prefer the heal mag release. It works fine, and the MK II mags are more plentiful.

I have four MK II's and zero MK III's. If I were to ever buy a MK III which is doubtful, the first thing I'd do is remove the LCI and mag disconnect. They just aren't necessary.

I agree, but IMHO it's not a big premium- 25% tops.

In the real world, I've found that MkII's don't sell for as little as the value guides erroneously suggest, but they're not collector's items either. IMHO that's a $350 pistol there.

Way over priced unless this is a limited edition of some type. This is obvious price gouging.

Get a new Mark III and a $15 kit to eliminate the mag safety. The only other diference is loaded chamber indicator.

If you think those things are important to you, I got no quarrel with you. I don't, that's all.
