Need opinions on load

I am going to load 128 grain jacketed 7.35 mm. The Lee manual shows 30.8 grains of H4895 for a 130 grain jacketed. I am assuming this load would work fine for the 128 grain. Am I right?

What bullet is it? Is that max or start load for 130?

They may have it listed on www.imrpowder.com. I would check there first, but if you can't find it on there, you should still be good. Just start low at minimum charge and work up. If the 30.8 is max, general rule of thumb is reduce by 10% and workup to max.

According to my Lee manual, this is the starting and maximum load. It is a 128 grain jacketed soft point bullet.

Who makes the bullet?

I would suggest going to the above link I posted earlier. Great site.

Re: Need opinions on load

Go check hodgdon.com...

The starting load and the max load should not be the same.

CAUTION: The following post includes loading data beyond or not covered by currently published maximums for this cartridge. USE AT YOUR OWN RISK. Neither the writer, The Firing Line, nor the staff of TFL assume any liability for any damage or injury resulting from use of this information.

I don't spot the 7.35 Carcano on Hodgdon.com. However, QuickLOAD thinks you are safe up to 40 grains of H4895. This agrees indirectly with Hodgdon data on the .30-30 Winchester, which has a little less case capacity and a lower peak pressure limit than the 7.35 Carcano, both factors which add up to a lower charge weight limit, and yet it has a 35 grain maximum for H4895 with 130 grain bullet. So I think you should be more than safe treating the Lee manual load as a starting load if your gun is in good condition. You should at least be able to work up to the Hodgdon .30-30 maximum load.

The bullet I will be using is made by Hornady. It's a 128 grain jacketed soft point. Hodgdon doesn't have data for the 7.35 mm Carcano. The only published data I can find is in the Modern Reloading 2nd edition by Richard Lee. He shows data for a 130 grain jacketed bullet. The start load is 30.8 grains of H4895. The never exceed load is also 30.8 grains of H4895. Velocity is 2241 fps. Pressure units is 31,064. OAL is 2.893. I wouldn't think 2 grains of bullet weight would make much difference, but I appreciate the knowledge of more experienced reloaders. Thanks Unclenick for your data.

I've come across something like that. I had bought some 154gr RN for my 7mm Rem Mag and it really likes IMR-4350, but it didn't have that powder listed in the manual I have, so I emailed Hornady. They got back with me that same day with load data for the powder I wanted to use. I've found that Hornady is great at getting back when sent a question.

Just wanted to share my experience when I can't find something exact in the manuals.
