Expert and efficient and repeated use of the FA did not solve the problem.

I just found this video, and although it's just about lowers, I think it describes quite well what you can expect to gain for you money when it comes to parts like stocks, lowers, uppers, charging handles, etc... Although some parts will give you additional options, most of the changes are for perceived ergonomics or simple cosmetics. Although I must say, some use better materials and have a bit better fit and finish; you would be hard pressed to see much difference in performance between the low to high cost parts.

However, there are things like the BCG, Barrel, Trigger, buffer tube, etc that can provide more accuracy, reliability, durability, and longevity, when compared to "cheap" parts. Although many of those cheap parts will still build a good and reliable rifle.

Ultimately, I think this reflects on how versatile AR type rifles can be, you can spend as little as possible, as much as you want, build it, or buy it, and in the end, you can bet that you'll end up with a good usable rifle.
