Does Anyone know anything about these CZ copies? All I know is that they are made in the Czech Republic.

Brno is another Czech firearms manufacturer, remember the BREN Light Machine Gun from WWII? BRno and ENfield. CZ-USA actually imports some Brno rifles. Also, CZ-UB is in Uhersky Brod township.
That looks like a Witness polymer clone, made by Tanfoglio of Italy, good maker. Last edited by armoredman; November 29, 2009 at 04:56 AM. |

That's an Alfa Defender (?).
http://www.alfa-proj.cz/en/products/...mbat-defender/ I don't know much about Alfa-Proj, except that they make revolvers and airguns as well. |

The CZ 75, like most CZ products- is a much cloned pistol. I do not know anything about a Czech made clone- would seem pointless.

I'm Interested because CDNN has them on special for
$299, and if CZ truly imports some of their rifles I would imagine their quality would be superior to other clones. |

Brno makes excellent weapons. While I can't speak for this particular pistol, I know that everything I have ever had that came from that factory has been quality. This being CZ hanguns to mauser rifles, you can't really go wrong buying brno.

When they first exported their guns to the US, through a 2nd Party, they were using Tanfoglio-made frames, supplemented by some parts made in the Czech Republic.
Any gun made or assembled in the Czech Republic can use the "CZ" nomenclature, which simply means "made in Czechoslovakia" or "made in the Czech Republic." It is unclear whether the guns the Strakonice company now making are based on the Tanfoglio frames or not, but a number of gun makers do that. But the polymer gun shown looks identical to a Tanfoglio-polymer gun. This company and another were members of a bigger corporation under Communist rule. Prior to the breakup of the Communist Bloc. One company was converted to making mostly heavy equipment and motorcycles. Prior to the breakup, they were making long-guns only. Their last pistols were the CZ-50, 52 and 70 -- so they had been out of the pistol business for several decades. That is the company associated with the gun pictured. This firm had NOTHING to do with the development or production of the CZ-75 design or gun. Their guns seem to be based on the Tanfoglio design, which is equally good, but somewhat simpler. They seem to be good guns, and I'd assume that they can be serviced with parts from Tanfoglio (via WITNESS and EAA) if you can't get them elsewhere. |

Brno is the second largest city in the Czech Republic and is located in the south east part of the country. Brno has a long arms manufacturing history many firearms made by Zbrojovka Brno are just called Brno and indeed, many are just stamped Brno.

Not finding much via google. Couple of similar posts in other forums referring to the offering in the CDNN catalog.
Very interesting... if you buy it, please give us the full report! |

Sorry couldn't help my self. Never heard of it either. If it is a clone, I'd just buy the real thing. I can't imagine if it needed warranty work what it would take. |

The pistol isn't a Brno or a CZ, it's made by Alfa-Proj
from their site.. ALFA - PROJ spol. s r.o. Profile ALFA - PROJ spol. s r.o. was established in 1993 as a Czech limited company. The company’s scope of activity includes production and trade, employing 100 personnel out of 140 in production. Since the beginning of the company’s existence it has involved in short arms production. The short arms range includes blank-shoot revolvers and low muzzle energy shot revolvers as well as life revolvers of .22 LR to .357 Magnum calibres. Since 2002, ALFA-PROJ has been manufacturing Combat and Defender pistols, calibres from 9 mm to .45 ACP. The company enhanced its production with air arms in 2004. Currently these include air pistols and rifles for shooting sport. The pistol.. http://www.alfa-proj.cz/en/products/...-arms/pistols/ ---------------------- AP is primarily known for their revolvers and airguns. I don't think that they have US distribution. But the comments I've seen on international shooting forums have been favorable regarding their quality. |

Hi all!
I am new to this forum and have enjoyed it so far!
I just ordered one of the Alfa Defenders from CDNN. It should be here in a few days. My decision to get it was due in large part to the reputation of the original CZ that this copies. I hope that this one will live up to the same standard that was set by the original. MississippiDave's review was also a great contributor to my decision. Thanks for the write-up! I was curious on how it has held up since you wrote the review. Have you had any other thoughts or problems on the gun since you wrote your initial review? I know this thread is a little old. Hope you all are still around! |

Range report.
I finally made it to the range despite the 19 degree weather!
Fired about 120 Blazer Brass 115 FMJ through the gun. No problems to report. The gun came with a test target that showed that it is pretty much dead on at 15 meters. My own testing at 25 feet pretty much proved it as well, though my shooting skill needs extensive improvement. After I get more familiar with the trigger and sights, I hope to be able to hold a tighter group. Maybe when the temperature warms up a little as well. The gun felt great in the hand and even better to fire. I think it will only get better as I continue to get more accustomed to it. |
