All Benelli M3 pre ban?

Were all the Benelli M3s pre ban?

I have an opportunity to buy one and the owner said he purchased it in 1994. I was just curious whether it is a pre or post ban. Or is there a way to tell from the serial number?

TIA,

There are pre- and post-ban M3s.

The difference being (for post-ban), if you want a pistol grip, only 5 rounds allowed in the mag. If you want more than 5 rounds in the mag, only the standard (non-pistol grip) stock is allowed.
