S&W and solvent warning
Why does S&W advise against using ammoniated solvents in its handguns? Is this just a CYA, or does S&W use "mystery metal"?

Only reason I can imagine is nickel alloy plating that -- if chipped or scared through to the base metal (frequently copper) -- are destabilized when ammonia-based solvents are applied.

A lot of the custom barrel makers also say the same thing. They say it atackes the steel after prolong use, and causes piting.
