Every 1911 I have ever owned has had issues. Also st the range I go to, I see other shooters having issues as well. Results may vary.

Kimber Ultra Carry II. I don't think it ever fired an entire magazine without a malfunction of some sort. Their CS only made the problem exponentially worse.

Design or gun either way. I too have seen a number of 1911s struggle to exist. How about the exalted High Point, looks like a Brick with a Popsicle stick for a Grip. Not my ultimate bottom Feeder, but still "Pretty Sweet"

This thing was a complete POS. Roll pins working their way out with each shot. I had to polish everything to get it to feed and eject....wow that thing was bad!

I have a hipoint .45 that is uglier than anything but I'd risk my life on in before my 1911. It always goes bang.

To me this is a result of companies "improving" the design and owners being obsessed with not being able to stick a human hair between the slide and frame. That being said, of the two 1911s I had both had issues that needed resolving before they were running smoothly.

Honestly, I don't even know what's "normal" for semi-automatic pistols these days, reliability-wise

Of all of the ones I've bought new, less than half of them have "run right" out of the box, and two of the last six have required manufacturer assistance to one extent or another.

I suppose I should play the lottery, as I've had over a dozen 1911s, and not one of them has had issues with reliability. I don't know what to suggest to those who have had problems with multiple 1911s... perhaps the infamous limp wrist syndrome.

I don't imagine there's one best answer to the OPs question, and I'm sure that I don't know it if there is, but the Beretta Bobcat and its ilk seem to have problems at times. JMO.

Just because you think a Hi-Point is ugly does not mean it is a bad gun.

Ok, it is cheap, but mine has been super reliable and I actually like it and it fires all kind of ammo.

My expensive 1911 had some feeding issues with a certain batch of ammo, but I still like it.

Even my Tangfolio lowly .22 which is in fact a p.o.s., is not a bad gun after I worked the parts a little and broke it in. The site is bent a little, but I can shoot it almost as good as my Ruger mkII.

So, I am an optimist and would be hard pressed to blindly diss a gun without really attempting to make it right. Of course if the gun did not fire at all, I would a little perturbed, but luckily that has not happened to me yet aside from my old bb gun which never fed right in the first place and always made me madd. But that was like a 20.00 gun 30 years ago!

In terms of inherent design flaws, IMHO it's a 3-way tie between the Nambu Type 94, Glisenti Model 1910, and the Davis Warner Infallible.

It depends on how we define "POS." Unreliable? Inaccurate? Awkward design?

For me, two pistols meet all three of those criteria: the Colt Double Eagle and All-American 2000.

I would NOT rate the 1911 as POS! All of mine run like a top, my main carry gun is a 1991A1 (ORM) that has fed everything, including 255 grain .45 Colt bullets and various hollow points. I own Baers, Colts and Rock River Arms 1911's and don't have a problem with any of them.

The problem with the 1911 is everyone and their brother is making them and many have gone too far from the original design.

The worst I've had is a Jennings .22 LR pistol, now that was a POS.

1911's either run, or they don't. I've never seen one that worked well part time. I've owned some in the past, even name brands such as Colt and Springfield Armory that had issues. Of the 4 I currently own, Kimber, Colt, and S&W X2 all have been absolutely perfect. The Smiths have really impressed me.

The only real POS I ever owned was an early S&W Sigma.

I'm thinking of a pistol (if you can call it that) it harkened from a desert region. quality so bad you wouldn't wipe your ____ with it. Battered with tool marks just to take your eye off the smeared bluing. Initials M. H. Anybody?

I had a Raven Arms .25 Auto I paid $25 for about 25 years ago, shot 20 rounds through it the week I bought it, if you were a man sized target more than 10 feet away, it would be a 50/50 probability of being hit, so that aspect was P.O.S. cleaned it up, put it away in the vault.

I recently traded it in NIB towards a new .45 carry gun, got $120 for it! So would that be a sweet smelling POS?
