Anyone have a good load for whitetail for the 45 colt. I'm shooting a Ruger Bisley.

Thanks,

Turk

The loads from these guys is safe to use.

Keep in mind that defensive 357 Magnum loads kill deer, it does not take much power out of a 45 Colt to do the job.

That is what I like about all .45's....45 Colt, 45ACP etc.........they all come pre expanded!

My old Speer manual lists a 250 grain cast bullet over a charge of 296 powder. The manual says 21.0 grains to 23.5 grains MAX.

The light load is listed at about 1200 fps and the heavy load at 1375 fps. This has been my hunting load for my old three screw Blackhawk since I bought it in 1973. Out of my 4 5/8 inch barrel, its a flamethrower!!

Standard disclaimers.....

Turk I've been loading and shooting the 45 colts now for quite some time and I love em. I recommend that you use a 260 grain bullet over 23 to 25 grains of either H110 or W296. This load will work fine with either jacketed or cast bullets and should give you somewhere between 1200 and 1400 fps depending on your gun. Elmer Keith was very fond of using his own design of bullet (lyman 454424) cast fairly hard over either 18.5 grains or 22.0 grains of 2400. I've used both of these loads myself and your gun should handle them just fine, I don't recommend that you exceed 22.0 grains of 2400 though. If you want more power than these loads give you then have a 5 shot conversion done by Phillips and Rodgers of Huntsville Texas 1-800-682-2247. With the 5 shot conversion on your gun you can start getting in to some very serious high power loads. Readers please note..these loads are for Ruger single action guns only, DO NOT USE THEM IN COLT SAA's. Spike.....

Recommend: 300g XTP-HP, W296, magnum primers, any case.

Only need 1100fps for deer....
