Training advice

Good day,

Long time reader, first time poster. I intend to take basic hand gun training prior to purchasing and owning. I am in the process of applying for my NYS permit. I work in New Hampshire and have access to both the Lethal Force Institute and the Sig Academy programs. I would appreciate feedback from those who have attended either (or both) programs.

No knowledge of SIG academy. I have taken a class from an LFI graduate and read some of Mas' books. Good stuff in my estimation. For me knowing what I do, Sig would really have to blow lot'a O Air up thar to get me to skip LFI for their school.

Not saying SIg ain't a great school, could very well be. But ideas and concepts presented to me in print and from LFI trained folk really resonate.

Also if you google Masaad Ayoob ariticles you can get a Findarticle page with days of reading from the works of Ayoob. Very informative stuff.

training advice

Take LFI 1 to learn about basic gun handling, marksmanship, and the legalities of the use of deadly force. LFI 1 also goes into a little bit on tactics. Cops get fairly detailed training on the use of force -- private citizens have to search it out on their own, and a generic CCW class will be nothing more than an introduction.

Once you've had that as a basic foundation, then you can decide which classes at the Sig Academy might interest you, or best suit your needs.

I have not attended Sig, but I do have a friend who has. He is a corrections officer and was experienced going in. He found it useful.
Hope that helps.
