Why is the question "dumb"? Didn't you catch the op's caveat "...in your opinion"?

As I read through the other responses I went back and forth in my mind about what I think "the best" one is. Finally settled on this and not just because I own one.

The 1st Model 44 Hand Ejector, also called the New Century and better known as a Triple Lock.

This one was re-blued at some point in it's long life (shipped 1914) making it affordable to me. It's 5" barrel balances perfectly and - because of the 3 locking points - lock-up it excellent.

This model ushered in the N-frame S&Ws, as well as the 44 Special cartridge, parent cartridge to the 44 Mag so many have suggested. They literally don't make them like this any more...and haven't since 1915.

There are Smiths, Colts and a Ruger in my safe. The absolute best, for fit, finish, and trigger is my 1961 6" Royal Blue Python. The 73 Model 27-2 isn't far behind though, nor is the 1975 Model 17-4.

That said, I think my favorite is the 3" SP101 in .327 Fed Mag. The gun is of perfect size to carry, concealed or otherwise, holds 6 of a pretty decent little round and with the boot grips on it, fits every hand in the house. It's a little tank that has so much going for it, it's hard to find a flaw. If there was one, the trigger isn't as nice as some, but I've been too lazy to fix that, lol.

Anything with the Smith and Western name on it! Especially, however the Models 27, 15, 19 and 29 come to the forefront for me.

Love me some S&W guns, semi autos included.

Can't say what is the best but I'm willing to bet/say it is probably on a S&W K-frame. Just look at number of choses( 10 or 11 marked as k's and there pre-K named guns), barrel lengths(17/8"-8" standard production), sight options (Fixed, Combat or target adj., lazer, red-dot,scoped) , calibers (.22 [short, long, longrifle, mag., jet], .32, .38, .357), and overall longevity of the K-frame(1896-present).

I'll just have to go along with the S&W .357 Magnum, later to be given the model number 27, with the 3 1/2" barrel. One day at the range I shot at a paper plate on the dirt bank behind the targets at 220 yards and hit it 4 out out of 6 shots. that pistol just seemed to fit my hand. I've hit a coyote at about ninety yards with it. When I left Law Enforcement my partner almost begged for it and I gave it to him.

After thinking a while

I would have to say Ruger GP100. It is in a league of its own. The Dan Wesson .357 would be second, Smith K frame third, Smith J frame and Colt D frame tied for fourth, Ruger Blackhawk single action fits in there next.

Best ever is impossible to say with certainty. But from my experience, that's how I see it. My answers might change if I had the opportunity to shoot all revolvers ever made.

S&W 629,29, or 686p are tied for first, sp101 close second

Probably the Original Best Ever Title went to the Colt Single Action Army.

Probably my next in Line choice would be a 357 Registered Magnum.

Possibly next in line would be a Python. It might be debatable if a Python has anything over a Registered Magnum or not.

What would be my personal favorite revolver. A Royal Blue 4" Red Ramp Model 25 in 45 acp with the 3 T's. That to me is as good as it gets.
