Best holster for model 1911

What would you guys recommend for an open carry holster for a Ruger Model 1911.

Open carry holster but for what type of use? How much retention do you need? Is it for hunting hiking trail riding, horseback or trail bike? I use either an M-84 with flap or a serpa as my basic 2 holsters I use in the woods.

I have a couple from Next Holster and so far I favor them over the others I have tried.

Yeah, depends on where/what for?
For open carry on the range, I use a Gunsite Omega from Davis Leather, and a Thunder from Ted Blocker.
If I were in the woods, I'd want something higher/tighter, like the Bruce Nelson/Avenger style. I have a now-discontinued Bianchi #4, but just about everyone makes a holster of that style.

EDIT: I knew you wanted to see the Omega.

I have a custom high rise with 15 degree cant. wear it at 4 oclock.Trigger is covered as it is locked n cocked. Guy in a saddle shop made it. ...guy's been dead for 10 years...leather is still going strong!

My favorite is the Horseshoe Leather model 22H -- but Andy has about a two year backlog, so if you want/need something a bit faster, you'll have to look elsewhere.

UBG holster either IWB or outside . If in woods I use my old GI flap holster

I use the Mitch Rosen Premier (Express Line). I like being able to put the holster on and take it off without taking off my belt.

I admit that holsters perplex me.

Personally I've just about concluded that holsters are an even more personal choice than firearms, that is, I think it's easier for someone to choose the gun they want then the holster they want to carry it in.

I base this ONLY on a few folk I know who have bought a lot of different holsters for a couple of guns that they want to carry.

I've bought cheap holsters that have been terrible thinking that the holster is 'not that big a deal' so I wasted money and learned from that that I should buy from a 'quality' company.

But still a 'good quality' holster might not turn out good for me.

What to do? Best is if you can try 'em on with your gun and see how they fit but that's not too practical. I like the companies that show pictures of the holsters in use on a human model but that is no substitute for trying them on yourself.

I guess what I'm saying is holsters can be a real black hole in your shooting budget and I've got no real solution for you just a saying that if you go with the higher end 'quality' goods you'll at least avoid half the problems I've had.

In an open carry urban environment I always use some with retention features. ....too many silly people.

In the wood I like a strap.....people fall, horses buck...etc.

I carry mine in a US leather tanker holster across my chest.

I'm a fan of Pure Kustom's Black Ops holster. It's adjustable and can be worn OWB or IWB. Well made and well thought out..

I'm a big fan of serpa holsters myself, used to use one for my HK and 1911 when I wore OWB holsters.

I see little practical need for anything more than an "Uncle Mike's" nylon holster
with a mag pouch attached;

It's no fashion statement, but it's functional, durable, and inexpensive
