Well a #rd Geb Colt Letter?
There has been some previous discussion about 3rd gen Colts lettering from the factory. Here it is in print. I received this pamphlet with a 3rd gen Police pocket I recently purchased. You may need to copy and then load this in Photo shop or some other image editor to view the print. This is what is has to say.
Historical Documentation A personal Historical Letter is available as an Option to authenticate The origin of your Colt Black Powder Arm. It Verifies the basic speci- fications of the firearm As it was shipped from the factory. The letter shown has the “Colt Manufacturing Company Inc” header. On the inner pages it states LAST TIME OFFER OF 1994 SIGNATURE SERIES MODELS So I’m assuming this was printed in 1994. So now you can run out and order those $100 letters from Colt. #rd gen... oops, should read 3rd gen |

There's still some confusion. Colt Black Powder Arms Co. copied the Colt pamphlets to the letter resulting in Colt putting out a disclaimer saying they would not repair or letter 3rd gens. I don't see how can they letter them when they didn't build them? I may be wrong and they started doing it because I thought production ceased in the 80's but I know Gun and Game magazine printed the disclaimer after some were sent to Colt for repair.

Sig Series were made from 1994 thru 2002.
My understanding is that some early ones were lettered. There was a cased pair of engraved Sig Series 1860 Armies on GB a while back that had Colt factory letters. But, the letters stated that they were Colt Blackpowder Arms Co revolvers that were engraved & cased by Colt for display. They had 2nd Generation accessories in the case.

I see the $100 letters are now $300 and up.

Authentic Colt Black Powder Arms are manufactured under an authorized licensing agreement. Possibly Colt did all the advertising for the Sig series. Last edited by madcratebuilder; June 21, 2009 at 09:52 PM. |

I had thought about lettering two of my cased 2nd gens, but choked on the $100 each. $300 gave me severe chest pain!

$300 for a letter? Sheesh. I've got one letter for a 45 that I want to trace to SF Gunbuilder Bob Chow (former Olympic shooter). It doesn't show a Bob Chow connection. I may have to file a Freedom of Information Act to establish a connection between the distributor in Sacramento and Bob Chow.
