Anschutz 22 Hornet
I'm in the process of purchasing a 1430/1434 in 22 HORNET. Does anyone have any pet loads for this combination. When did they stop production on this series. THANKS BOB

Pet Loads for .22 Hornet
Over the years I have had 5 Hornets. All but one were single shots.
I have loaded 4227 and 680 and ended up with 1 1/2 inch groups. My Ruger 77/22-Hornet seems to like 9.9 grains of 2400 ussing a 45 grain bullet. I can cover the group with a dime. I also load either a 55 or 45 grain bullet with 4.1 grains of UNIQUE [estimated 1850 fps]. |

.22 Hornet---
There's an excellent article in the July-August 1983 Handloader Magazine
on the .22 Hornet. It's by Layne Simpson and he owned 4 Hornets when he wrote the article and tested them. One was the Anschutz model 1430- 1434. Some of his best groups were with 4227, H 110, and 2400 like Madison experienced and with 40-45gr. Spitzer bullets. The very best were .32 for a Sierra 45gr. Semi-spitzer & 2400 powder at 2745 fps, .31 for a Nosler 45gr Semi-spitzer & H-4227 at 2777 fps, and .34 for a 40gr Speer Spitzer with H-4227 at 2795 fps. All were 5 shot groups at 100 yds. The H 110 load was .41 with a Sierra 45gr Semi-spitzer at 2753 fps. It seemed like most of his best groups were with the overall length of the ctg. at 1,740-1.770 in the 4 rifles he tested. Each rifle is different and should be checked Carefully for the o/a length. He also got some exc. groups with the W-680 powder but I think it's out of production. Hope this of some help. Wish I had a Hornet---Good Luck |

My 77/22 Hornet likes 10.5 grains of 296 with a 40 grain speer soft point. Best group was 5/8" at 100 yds.
