looking for a bullet mold in 38 special. /357 magnum

I there such a mold that will make bullets that is pointed in the 110-140 grain range? I would like it gaschecked. Any recommendations?

all 26 of my guns are 45/70 govt, 357 mag, 22 or 12 ga... I believe in keeping it simple. Wish my wife did as well...

How pointy does it have to be? This is what I found with a few minutes searching.

What about a nice 150gr? It's kinda pointy..... as much as a SWC gets.

Lee makes the 358-140, even in a 6 cav too.... but it doesn't come in gas check. You could use plain base checks with it.

Unless you have a specific need for a "pointy" bullet, I agree with using one like the mold Beagle suggests. A popular style that has proven performance for accuracy and terminal effect on target (either cutting round holes in paper or tissue destruction)...

OK so if your dead set on this particular type and shape when you say "pointed" then you might find one on evilbay from Ideal or Lyman.

You can head over to the following site to see them,
Castpics Historical Mold References

Also maybe here as well, (where I saw these two at)
http://www.three-peaks.net/bullet_molds.htm

Look up the following ,

358302 - 112gr PB

358093-35893_125gr GC'ed

Then of course there are the ones posted above, as well as some older Hensley and Gibbs, but with those your looking to spend some bucks and time to find. Not saying the other two in either Ideal or Lyman will be cheap, but finding any of them is not going to be a 15 minute deal.

are these still around?

how about the Lyman mold 35893 ?

What I am looking for is to stretch the limits of my Ruger 77/357 rifle. It is magazine fed so it can take the pointly bullets. I am pretty new to casting. I currently only cast bullets for my 45-70 and only have 2 mold one is a 300 grain hollow point and the other is a 500 grain flat nose.

I am having a hard time finding the actual Lyman 35893 mold. Is there a place that can make custom molds? Yeah I am willing to spend a good amount of money on this.

These people will make you a custom mold I believe.
http://www.accuratemolds.com/catalog.php?page=all
The very first listing in their list of designs is "I want a mold of a new design".

Don't get me wrong Tom makes some damn fine molds and I have a few of them, and plan on ordering a couple more soon.

But he does have some limitations on what he can do as is noted in the quote below taken form his site.

Quote:
My current tooling is limited to these design features:

* A flat meplat of at least 0.18 inch diameter.
That might be fine with the OP but if he is indeed looking for that Lyman mold as it is, I don't think Tom will be able to duplicate it.

Deja vu,

Your best bet on tracking down one of those is to post up over on Castboolits in the Swapping and Selling section. They have a subforum that is called Wanted. If you post up your looking for that one in particular, and or some of those bullets to try, and bump it up once every couple of days to keep it up near the top or at least on the front page you might at least find someone who might swap you some of them to try out.

Other than there I would check out Evilbay as they are always popping up these older not so mainstream molds. I have picked up a few myself that I thought would be near impossible to find but I did. Don't mean I saved any money, but I got what I wanted.

you sure you wouldn't wanna give it a try before you get a custom mold made?
http://www.mattsbullets.com/index.ph...roducts_id=225

they look pretty cool, I wouldn't mind finding one of these molds myself.

here is one. http://www.neihandtools.com/catalog/index.html

can't link the bullet. go to top left, click 159 and go. it's the 359-125-GC

so I guess that means they will have it or make it for you 100$ for 2 cav up to 200$ for six cavity

I looked on the nei hand tools site. I think you meant click on 359 as there is no 159 choice.

Thanks. Your right. Appears to be an exact duplicate of the Lyman mold

Beagle333's recommendation of the Lee 140 SWC is a good one. I've used this mold for years for target loads for both 38 Special and 357 Magnum. 3.8-4.0 grains of HP-38/W231 has worked well in both cartridges/most guns. It produces 1" groups from my 10" Contender.
