May sound stupid
but I was just curious as the safest way to break down a rnd if it fails to fire. I understand that there are ways to dispose of ammo, but If one wanted to remove the slug from the casing and dump the powder, how would this be done? Is it even a safe thing to do?

Bullet puller.
Midway 988-211 $13 No handloader should be without one. If you are an ammobuyer, just trash it. One cartridge is not going to blow up the garbage truck. |

Fail to fire
I allways try to turn the cartridge and fire again. If this doesn´t do the job i´ll have somebody else try the round in their weapon.
If all fails and the deloading hammer doesn´t work I´ll take a pair of pliers and twist the round off. Uwe |

Before I bought the Midway bullet puller, I would put the offending round in my reloading press in the correct shell holder, push it up through the threaded hole where the dies go, apply a vice grips to the bullet and lower the handle. Tends to mess up the bullet but it pulls easily.

Sometimes bullet pulling hammers don't work; if all else fails, you could get a bullet remover die and a set of collets from RCBS. Many times a round that won't yield to a hammer will pop right out when the collet fingers grab around the bullet.

Hey thanks guys. I just have an inherent concern of messing with a live cartridge.
