Bets powder for a 40?
Merry xmas everyone
Im going to start reloading for my g23 and was wondering what you guys are using for powder. This will be for target practice, not S.D. I want something economical but with enough power if I decide to use it for IDP or IPSC matches. Any other info would be great also. Im not new to reloading, but iam for this caliber. Thanks |

Pick one. Most pistol powders will work well in this round.
The ones that people use are all over the place. Win 231 Alliant Bull's Eye TiteGroup Hodgdon Clay's Power Pistol Just to name a few.

I don't load .40, however I do .45. I'd suspect the powders I use would work well for your purpose as well. I like the classics: bullseye, unique, 231.

For those just starting to reload for the 40 S&W, if you pick a mid burn rate powder they are more forgiving to issues without disastrous affects. After you get some experience, going to the faster burn rates is an option.

Accurate #5 for target loads, Longshot for high performance loads. Currently running 8.3 gr. of #5 under 155 gr. Montana Gold hollow points, with a muzzle velocity of 1050 fps.

I'm new to loading for my G22 and have tested 4 powders. Unique, Power Pistol, AA#5 and Winchester Super Field WSF. Of the 4 I'd pick WSF as it produced top velocity and the recoil was softer than the others. Unique and Power Pistol would also work well. AA#5 did well with 155 gr. XTP's.

I shoot a XD40 with a 4" barrel. I tried a lot of the different powders listed, but finally ended up with 231 for my light target and comp loads. I also went to a 180gn moly coated lead bullet.
I have heard that the lead is no good in Glocks with a stock barrel, but a lot of the guys I shoot pistol matches with, say its fine as long as its moly coated. |

I use Titegroup and Power Pistol in both my Glock and my Sig with excellent results.

I've used W231, Unique, and Power Pistol. Of the three, Power Pistol is my favorite.
