need help with a marlin 36
hey guys new here but hopefully some one can help me out. I picked up a marlin model 36 30-30 its a marlin 36 z18903 anyone know how old this gun is?
i know the marlin 336 replaced the 36 in 1948. so im guessing its between 1936 and 1947. |

From my limited references, I can only see where Marlin used "B" "C" and "D" prefixes on the 36. Don't see any reference to the use of a "z".
A more comprehensive description of all markings would help, including barrel markings, and whatever's on the tang. Even better yet, pics of same, especially the serial number. |

I'm pretty sure that if the tang is not stamped with "1936" then it was made sometime after 1946. I used to own an extremely rare 1936 ADL Deluxe (only 50 were made). My understanding is that the model '36 started out in 1936 and was sold as a "1936". 2 years later, the catalog was changed to a model number "36" but the tang was still stamped "1936" until after the war when the tang stamping stopped.
Unfortunately there are no serial number records for many of the model years (I seem to recall that maybe it was a fire that destroyed them but I could easily be wrong). |
