Need ANY help ID-ing H-S Precision rifle stock.....

Hello to all - First post, so hopefully y'all will be kind to a meek little NEWBIE! A just-learning girl, for that matter. I need some assistance in identifying a H-S Precison stock. I inherited part of my grandfather's gun collection (split up between 2 brothers and scattered across the US). In the collection was the stock, but I'm not sure WHICH gun it fits. There's an '8' stamped on the inside on the aluminum housing. I'd like to get it back to the right gun and hope somebody can help. Looks like a bolt action, right hand side. Maybe, maybe not. I've posted pictures, and hope somebody would like to be "Hero Of The Week"!

The pattern on the stock sure looks like what used to come on Remington 700 Varmint Synthetic and Sendero rifles. I believe they were made by HS Precision.

Thaks for the input! Was this an original stock to one of the guns or do you think it was bought later and intended for the gun? I'll have to check and see if one of us has one of the model guns you mentioned.

Looks like it's inletted for a Browning A-Bolt. Almost a mauser or Ruger M77 but those have clover leaf tangs. The relief on the left is for the large bolt release.

I tried looking it up on HS Precision website; went through some of the guns but don't see anything just like it there, either. There's only 1 1/2 inches in the groove between the lever indentation and upper ridge (if you know what I'm talking about - I don't). Because it's an older stock or something? What exactly is the releif on the left?

The left side cut-out is for the bolt release button of a Browning A-bolt. After seeing your pictures again and seing the inletting for the tang safety there's no doubt it's for an A-Bolt.

The Remington 700 VS and Sendero used to come from the factory with a HS Precision stock that looked like that.

As Horseman pointed out though, the inletting is wrong for it to fit a Remington rifle.

Thanks for that info. Do you think the stock was aftermarket for a Browing A-Bolt?? Is it a .22?

The A-Bolt is Browning's bolt-action centerfire rifle. I would guess it is an aftermarket replacement.

I think its for a Sako, because I don't see any Browning stocks listed on there website. Sako's also have a pretty big bolt release button on the left.

Why don't you list the bolt actions guns your grandfather had and that might help.

H-S will inlet most stocks they make for the major rifle mfg's. The stock is a sporter type stock inletted for Browning A-bolt. H-S color code on that stock is "black with grey webbing".

What really gives that stock inletting away is the bolt release cut-out and even more so the inletting for the safety. Anyone who owns an A-Bolt will confirm the 3rd picture clearly shows the exact same dished out area for the tang safety. A factory stock would have a dab of red paint there.

Speaking with my brothers, one inherited his pistols and a few shotguns, the other brother inherited his old, old peices and a few shotguns. I have bolt actions I have are a 7mm Mauser, a Ruger 308, 8mm Mauser, and Winchester 270. Rest are shotguns and 22s. I don't know if anything I have will work with it or not. So Final Answer would be for a Browning A-Bolt (long or short action?) I still didn't see anything exactly like it on HS website.......dernit. I suppose I'll start researching the anatomy of a rifle. At least then I'd know half of what I'm talking about.

It does say H-S Precision and theres a # 8 stamped on the metal insert-no color dabs anywhere.

Thank you guys, for your help in identifying the stock. Horseman, you were right!! It IS for a Browning A-Bolt. The gentleman at HS Precision said they haven't made the stocks for Browning in 10 years or so, but that is exactly what it was made to fit. Now I'll just see if I can find a Browning to add to the collection!!

Now you just need a nice A Bolt donor rifle for it......It'd be a great stock for a Medallion model. Those walnut Medallion stocks are too pretty for the woods.
