1 rifle, what would you pick? - Page 4

Well, I have to say that this thread kinda stresses me out... I hate trying to think of what ONE gun that is in my safe I would keep if all others had to go. After much thought, I have decided that is would be my first rifle I ever bought. A Remington model 788 in .223. I had some work done on it and put a new trigger on it and I am in love with that gun! I decided to keep that one because it is VERY accurate, and it would kill just about anything with a shot to the bean. Man I love that gun!

My favorite rifle is my Savage .17HMR. Once I get a Harris bipod and aftermarket trigger installed it be even favoriter. It turns tundra rats inside out and is fur friendly on foxes, but to cover everything else I'll have to pick my Tikka T3 Lite.

Just what I have. A pre 64 model 70 Winchester 30-06 featherweight with a 4x Leupold compact scope.

I'm done hunting. I can think of one or two that I like, but the one that I shoot most of all is my little Ruger CRR with the green lam stock and a 4x Nikon. It wouldn't be my first pick for deer sized game, but I know for sure that it would work.

i picked it already......
Remington model 700 stainless w/composite stock and a 24" barrel.
cant go wrong with a proven solid foundation.for the money its good enough to drop anything in the U.S.

I haven't hunted with it yet, but I'd have to say my springfield M1A scout in .308 win. No, it's not super accurate at 1.5 MOA tops, but it'll put a lot of lead down range fast, is very reliable, not too heavy at 8lbs, has good iron sights, has a detachable scope with QRW rings, and the .308 has enough power to takedown just about anything in north america. I would like to try and take a whitetail deer with it this fall.

My father also gave me this as my first gun. 270wby mag I have taken mule deer, elk, coyotes and even buffalo with it since 1992. Not a bad way to start, I thank the old man every fall.

41 years with the 700 Remington ,hands down best rifle I have ever owned.In that 41 years never have had to send one in nor have I ever had a problem with one.

i'd choose REMINGTON SPEEDMASTER.

though i own an ARMSCOR / Squires Bingham Rifle, i'd still go for the Remington Speedmaster.

I own 5 deer rifles but the one that a I keep grabbing when I head out deer hunting is my Winchester M94 rigged with a Williams peep sight, and shooting Speer 170gr Flat point hand loads . I hunt thick Maine woods and the shots are close. This rifle points quick and is very accurate in my hands. I shot a 11pt 201 lbs dressed buck with it at a distance of 25-30 yards bang flop. I shot a 9pt last season at a distance of 19 yards bang flop venison in the pan.

A CZ 30.06 with their "Spring Camo" laminate stock. Now if I could get the stock by itself I might get some other Mauser style rifle like the Win 70. Ilike the barrel stainles and put a black Bushenll Elite 4200 scope (love their Rainguard) on it.

30.06 because the reloading components available are almost beyond numbering and if I needed factory fodder every mom/pop store in the country sells it.
