LC Smith Field

Just wanting to know about an approximate value of a LC Smith Field Grade 12 gauge shotgun. I don't have any pictures of it, but I'll get them asap...

The gun seems to be showing it's age, the stock has got some old scratches and some pitting that looks to have been around a while. According to my uncle the stock and foregrip may have been varnished at some point. The butt plate is broke, but a previous owner at some point screwed the broke piece back on.

The base and trigger area seems to be in great shape, just some surface pitting, someone has removed the bluing and refinished it.

Foregrip looks to be in good shape, varnished like the stock. Worst case scenario is a hair line crack about an inch or so long from the release button, best case it's a scratch; I can't tell for sure.

The barrels have a good finish, underneath has some slight dings and pings. Inside the left barrel has a little scar, right barrel looks smooth.

The breach is nice and tight.

In my opinion, which isn't worth a hill of beans: I think the shotgun looks good from a distance, with just some dents, dings and scars; other than the butt plate nothing seems to be broken or fouled up.

In my recent experience, L.C. Smith field grade 12 ga's, in very good to excellent (but not necessarly "collector grade") condition, start about $800.00, retail, and go up from there. Smaller gagues go for more.

In the condition you describe, not so much.

.

My $0.02: I wouldn't pay a penny more than $400 for a 12ga Elsie Field Grade in the described shooter (maybe) condition.

Value will also be influenced by whether it was made by Hunter Arms or Marlin.

What's that got to do with the price of eggs in China?

In my area -----as you describe it....dents and dings, re-blued, some pitting, cracked butt plate, maybe stock has a hairline crack.......

........ you would be lucky to get $100 for it ....and it would be very difficult to find a buyer.

Smithfield is about to be purchased by the Chinese - us Southern folks are going to have to learn to like BEEF BBQ..........

Again, someone's % of condition may be completely different from another's, so pics would REALLY help

Same here!

But I've got two and love them for rabbit hunting.

Course, if your shotgun is autographed by Paula Dean, it may bring considerably more.

Or if you offered the buyer 50 lbs of premium smoked bacon along with the gun ....you'd get an extra $ 200...

Is a "smoked" ...Hog Dog....worth anything ....or is too skinny ...
