Waste of a good gun Bwwwaaaaaaaaaa

This is a Rossi hammered coach gun at my local gunshop

:barf: Nearly made me cry..... I have the exact same gun (perfectly in tact tho)

The story with this one, is a couple of country boys in a car slowed down to shoot a crow on the side of the road (yes, very, VERY naughty, illegal & stoopid) The guy in the front passenger seat (left hand front seat here in Oz) took aim at the bird out of the open window and had a shot at the bird, obviously a handload that missed powder. The primer (& whatever little powder might have been in there) was enough to push the wad and shot half way down the barrel. The guy ripped out the shell (or so he thought, but it was only a husk) and put another in there & shot again without checking after the FTF. The result was the barrel went KABOOM.... demolishing the passengers side (left hand side) external mirror and cracking the windsheild!

Lesson.... if you have a partial fire, or a FTF..... CHECK the barrel isn't obstructed before attempting yo fire the gun again!

I don't know if the story I was told is accurate, obviously no one is admitting anything.... but sounds believable.

Take note of this, & no matter what the Mythbusters reckon, barrels can BLOW UP

Luckily no one was hurt..... although it is highly likely someone was.... like I said, no one is saying much......

Oh, I have a Rossi Coach Gun story. Back when I was 'smithing, I was working the counter and a guy came in with a shopping bag and plunked it down on the counter. He dumped out the contents and it was two seperated barrels, the ribs, and the lug from a Rossi Coach Gun...

I stammered for a second and tried to pry the story out of the guy. He was sort of upset and finally cut me off and said "listen, I don't want any hassle, just how much to fix it?!"

Turns out he had hidden the Coach Gun in the broiler of his oven while he was on vacaton, and his wife had turned the broiler on...

I'm very confused. I don't see how must having the gun heat up in the broiler would cause it to come apart in pieces.

The hottest most ovens/broilers get should still be below the temperature at which the solder used to join the barrels and rib melts, unless Rossi is using a very low temperature solder.

Also, how big was this guy's oven, and wouldn't the smoking wood have tipped her off that something was wrong?

It was good for a couple of laughs, and I even submitted it to "Industry Insider" magazine and got an "I answer Dumb Questions" T-shirt, which I still have.

Good point. Thats why I said I wasn't sure of the truth in the story, just what I had been told when I was taking the pics.

Obviously the truth is out there, just need to call Molder & Sculley to dig it up.

I just thought it was a good idea to post the pics (and what stoty I was told) in the hope folks learn from the KABOOM, no matter how it happened, and be safe themselves

I would talk them down, you can easily get another $50 off that gun in that condition...

I tried.... They are looking for a new set of barrels, but the woodwork has copped a bit of roughing up too..... I think they should get another gun and keep the damaged one for spares (or a wall hanger) You cant really tell what other parts have been over stressed/cracked

In one of the pictures, there is a brick of CCI primers... So that is where all our primers went. Australians are buying them up and creating a shortage!

I had a great week..... I got 2 bricks of 22lr CCI for my P22 and a brick of small pistol primers from my local gunshop

Then I went to Sydney and went to an indoor range, then to a HUGE sydney gunshop and (overspent) got 400 unprimed 44 rem mag brass (been looking for 4 months for those), a kilo of AP-50, and a kilo of fff Black.... So I am (broke) right for supplies for yonks now
