Need 45 Colt Load

I have a uberti Colt Walker with a R&D 45 Colt cylinder. I need a good load that is safe. I would like to use smokeless powder. I have no experience loading black powder cartridges. I have 200gr FN cast bullets, and Unique, Red Dot, and Bullseye powder. But i am open to buying an other powder like Trail Boss etc.

I just had the same question i ended up using 255grain lee flat nose cast to cast bullets and right on at 8.0 grains of unique. this seems perfect to me... but i am new at this whole reloading thing... tried a couple of rounds at 7.5 7.8, they both seemed to shoot fine, but they seemed kinda weak.

Unique and Red Dot are perfect powders for .45 Colt. Bullseye probably is too, but I haven't tried it yet.

Here's a copy of Alliant's reloading guide from about 2 or 3 years ago. All the data is still current (except maybe some of the .357 magnum loads using Blue Dot powder and light bullets) and it is much more comprehensive than what they have on their web site now:

Look at pages 13, and 16–18. Hope this helps.

We did all kinds of experiments to find a wimpy load that is accurate for my brother's S&W1917.

6 gr Unique and 300 gr cast is the best for him.

Other powders did not burn as uniformly in the cavernously huge 45C case.
