XDm question/clarification

I have heard that you can simply change out the barrel and magazine of the XDm and make it either the 9mm or .40, is this true? are there no differences other than barrel and magazine between the two?

If you have a .40 you can usually change the barrel and mags and shoot 9mm.
It doesn't work the other way around. This is able to be done on most semi-autos on similar platforms.
