Winchester rifles

My dad left me two Winchester rifles when he died. One is a model 1873 octagonal 24" barrel 44 cal. and the other is a model 1892 round 24" barrel 44WCF. Both are in fair to poor shape (I think) but I am interested in getting some idea of a value for them.

An 1873 in any condition brings at least $1,500, an 1892 in 44-40 in poor condition will bring about $800-1000. You can get a better idea of current prices and demand by looking on www.gunsamerica.com or www.auctionarms.com and see what they are currently bringing.

Post some pictures. I for one would love to see them. It would also be easier to give them an estimated value.

BTW - Both of those rifles take the same cartridge. (1873/.44cal = .44WCF = .44.40)

Interestingly, Winchester continued to make/sell the Model 73 long after the Model 92 was introduced - and in most of the same chamberings ! (The M92 wasn't available in .22LR)
Even though the Browning-designed M92 action was stronger/lighter/etc, their customers preferred the older model.

With both models, as a used gun today, the larger the caliber - the higher the resale value.
