Pedersen 4500 (Mossberg 500) project complete
I recently finished a refurb project on the following....
Is a Pedersen Model 4500 (Mossberg 500A) 28" barrel with a MOD choked barrel. The stock was pretty beat up when I bought it so I just got done re-finishing it with Tru-Oil... Here's the finished product: The action is smoothrt than glass.....

WOW, in a sea of matte metal and synthetic stocks, this is a real stand-out. It would do a bird or clay proud to be your target.

Quote:
Fron '73 - '75 Mossberg owned and operated Pedersen Custom Guns, they took their guns and added extra polishing, deeper bluing, and hand engraving, they were trying to get a piece of the higher end market... The 4500 was the "plainer" of the two pumps they offered, the Model 4000 that had a completely engraved receiver....

I love me some gun pern ("O" instead of "E" cuss filter) and had no idea Mossberg had ever tried to make my favorite "Sow's Ear" into a silk purse...
I was assuming Pederson's to be a hardware store private label as there are so many. From the moment I laid eyes on yours, I am droolin' and thinking about stickin' my barrel and tube in a lathe somewhere to high polish and re-blue... Brent |

there is a 12GA Pedersen 4000 at a local shop up here that has decent wood, BUT, sometime in the gun's past sombody added a Poly-Choke to it, but rather than adding it on to the end of the barrel, they hacked off two inches (including some of the VR) to add the Poly.... I've thought about that one for a project but the guy wants $400 as it sits and won't come down....
The one in the pic is going for almost $700!! (still too much money in my mind, it's still a model 500) Be careful though, if you think the Mossberg bug bites hards, wait until these things get under your skin.... The only "good" thing is, they don't pop up too often..... I'm always looking for them....

Smitty, that doesn't look like typical Mossberg wood, either. I suspect it was part of the Pedersen upgrade, too.
