.357 Cartridges for Hunting?

I have a Colt Python .357 4” and was looking for a web site that discussed the pros and cons of different cartridges that can be used for hunting in this caliber. Suggestions?

What are you planning to hunt? 357 has been successfully used to harvest game up to deer. It is a little light for wild boar. The 4 inch barrel, I think, is a handicap to hunting. The sight radius is short and you are not likely to get the most velocity possible out of such a short barrel. Also, the Python has a reputation for going out of time with heavy Magnum loads.

I have a >357 Trooper III also with a 4" bbl. My brother and I are going on a hog hunt in South Texas the 1st of March. I will be using my 10mm Glock as my back-up to my single shot >45-70 NEF. My brother will be using my .357 as back-up. I am loading it with 200 grain hard cast bullets over about 12 grains of Win. 296. They should produce about 1100-1150 fps from the short barrel. I would not choose to feed the revolver a steady diet of these warm loads, but will be ok for occasional use. I will field test this load prior to depending on it on the hunt. I will post my results on this site.
