Best All Around Pocket Gun ?
Fellow Defenders my head is very dizzy from roaming the internet for info trying to choose the best all around pocket gun .If you would please give me some guidance as to the top 3 or 4 ( I always like to ask the man who owns one ) to take a closer look at I would GREATLY appreciate it. I'm leaning toward a at a 9mm or even a .380 in the range of $500. + or - . Thank you in advance for your input and time.

Another vote for the PM9 (CM9 now that they are available, and you can save ~$100 or so).
The LCP is smaller/lighter, but the .380 cartridge is (IMHO) marginal. A .380 is what you carry when you can't carry a gun. |

My Choice
Glock 26 9mm. One of the best small pistol's out there for carrying purposes. Very accurate for it's size & very functional.

I'll second the LCP for the pocket.
I think the Kahrs are a hair too big. I'm also giving real thought to buying a tiny little NAA 22 Magnum revolver for the ultra convienience of it. Its a fairly nasty round coming out of that little pistol. |

I would have to suggest the Sig P238 or perhaps the Colt Pocketlite. I haven't seen or shot the new Colt but when they were originally produced they had a large following and it's a tad lighter than the Sig. I would also not hesitate to try out the Sig 938 9mm.

In 9mm, the best I know of are the Kahrs, the CM9 being less expensive than the PM9, but being functionally about the same. Really nice triggers, accurate, very comfortable to shoot--the best at handling recoil I know of, in this class.
Both of mine were a bit finicky as to what they would feed, but so many others here claim to have no problems, who am I to say. In .380, the Ruger LCP, in my experience, is the most reliable. Not finicky. I still have mine. The trigger smooths out over time, it's accurate at least to 7 yards even though no sights, and you can tame the recoil substantially with grip extensions from Ruger or Pearce Grip and with a Pacmayr Tactical Grip Glove slip-on. |

I carried a PM9 for a couple years. great gun!
currently I'm carrying a sig p238 with buffalo bore JHP +P I prefer the single action 1911 style pistol, and the "custom" rounds give adequate defense, IMHO. tom

I don't know how big your pockets are, but a Ruger LCP is as big as I can comfortably carry in my pocket. The gun itself is reliable, accurate and well made. In my opinion, it is the best all around pocket gun out there.

I'd vote for the Sig p238 in .380. can be found in your price range. the
P938 is about the same size for 9mm, but would exceed that price range. These are single action guns. The LCP gets good reviews for less money with a double action trigger. |

Re Glock 26
I love mine and carry it every day, but you need bigger pockets than mine for routine pocket carry. IWB great. Pocket carry rarely - neither concealment nor comfort is adequate for my taste, and drawing is slow because the grip is kind of cramped and therefore difficult to attain.

I put my LCP in my back pocket(with pocket holster) in the morning, and take it out at night when I go to bed.
It's with me all day, every day. |

I'm another vote for the LCP. They are barely bigger than a cellphone and I never once had a malfunction out of the one I had.

I've Got a Few
Like the other fellow, I put an Lcp in a hunter "wallet" type holster in my back pocket in the morning and take it out when I hit the sack.
I often have a S&W 642 in my front pocket... Nobody has mentioned the snub's, but they make good pocket guns. I've got an LCR too, but I carry the Smith. I've got an NAA 22 mag mini revolver in my front pocket right now. My newest toy is a Sig P238. I bought it more because it's so darned cool than anything, it's almost too pretty to mess up carrying all of the time, but it fits the front pocket nicely... If it passes the reliability test I might make it my "Sunday go to meeting" pistol. |

Unless you are wearing circa 1980 Jordache Jeans or their equivalent, I can't imagine that pocket carrying a PM9 would be a problem. I find it extremely comfortable in a pocket holster. Also relatively easy to shoot and relatively low recoil for a small 9mm, and a great trigger. Perfect EDC gun IMO.

Depending on what size pockets you have the LC9 may be a good choice. It fits in a larger pocket but not in tighter Jean pockets. It's also big enough that you can carry IWB if you choose and feel like you have something worth carrying.

Sig P290, smaller than the Shield, has a little bit of weight that helps on followup shots. The 290 had some teething problems that all seem to have been resolved. Great little pistol.

Currently wearing the pants with the tightest pockets I own
And in the front left pocket is my LCP. The thing is reliable as possible and in a Desantis pocket holster there is no print issue for me whatsovere. Frankly I prefer a revolver if I can fit it into that pocket but being that this is the semi sub forum I would have to make my vot one for my LCP.
Thanks, Vermonter |
