Gun Vises

I'm interested in purchsing a gun vise.......either a Tipton or MTM (GV30), but haven't decided which one. They both are about the same cost, so money isn't the issue.

Need your opinions on these two gun vises.

Thanks

I've never seen the need for a vise except for making repairs or mounting scopes, etc. A good solid work bench with a regular 4" vise and pads for the jaws is all I've ever used.

I bought Tipton's basic gun vice and although it's great for cleaning rifles it just don't cut it for mounting scopes. It just cannot hold the rifle level - especially if the stock has a high comb or cheek piece. The basic is now relegated to clean up duty at the range and I've replaced it in my den with a Tipton's Best gun vice and its well worth the extra $50! It just lacks the little cubby holes for cleaning solvents etc. I guess they were both designed for different purposes.

I have two Tipton gun vises. Don't know anything about the other one, so I can't cmt on it.
I get a whole lot of use out of them, for barrel cleaning, scope mounting, ring lapping, and opening up barrel channes on stocks to free float barrels. They earn their keep.
