Lyman Manual
I am a reloading noob, but have followed the voice of experience and bought several manuals. I am somewhat disappointed with the Lyman 49th edition. It does not list a load for a 230gr. cast lead bullets. It does have a listing for 225gr. RNL. Am I being too anal about the 5 gr. difference, or am I missing something.
While I'm commenting, I think the Lee manual is very informative for noobs, especially if you are using Lee equip. If you are using RCBS or Dillon, maybe the others would be more helpful.

I wouldn't sweat the extra 5 grains. I think the OAL is more important, especially in short fat cases like the .45 ACP.

Load the 230 grn cast bullet using lyman's 225 grn load. You wont see much differance. There will be more differance just because you are using a differant gun the lvman used.

small thought
What does the bullet you're using actually weigh? What is its exact diameter?
I weigh and measure my (myriad) bullets. So I actually know....

A Lyman fault in manuals...
Detatchment Charlie--I find that Lyman doesn't list data for any cast bullet for which they do not make a mould. This can get frustrating when you want to load for a particular cast bullet, and Lyman doesn't happen to make a mould for that one. BTDT myself.
Other than this, the Lyman manuals are very good. My own go-to manual is Lyman's 48th ed--haven't yet gotten their new #49. The solution is to (1) get another manual--most reloaders have a collection of them, and/or (2) look on the websites of the various bullet and powder makers. Most of them publish load data, and this is reliable because it comes from an identified, informed source. Never, NEVER, use load data put up by some anonymous yahoo on the web, unless it jibes with the reliable-source data.
