Always nice to have a professor from a respected law school chime in on our side. His letter to Sen. Cruz may be preaching to the choir as I assume Senator Cruz is sympathetic to gun rights since he is a Republican from Texas.

You would be assuming correctly. Senator Cruz is a supporter of the RKBA.

Yes, and that's probably the reason Barnett sent it to him. Dave Kopel did something similar.

In this case, it's not preaching to the choir, but careful targeting. They're giving Senator Cruz information he needs to use in arguments with his fellow Senators.
