A sw snubbie. A 442 or a 642. Its not finicky at all. As long as it has ammo it will go bang. Dirty, clean, in-between, pow! $350-400 most any gun store. Buy a cheap $15 dollar pocket hosted and your set. Really the only negative is that it's a close range gun. 10-15 range is range is about it for fast situations, other than that your set.

I would advise looking into the Kel Tec. You can get the .380 acp P3AT which is one of the thinnest, lightest and smallest on the market at a very reasonable price. They also make the 9mm PF9 and slightly larger higher capacity P11.
I have fired the P3AT and like it better than my NAA 380 which cost nearly twice as much. My P11 has over 500 rounds through it without a malfunction |

My personal favorite pocket carry is my hard chrome Keltec P32. I made a few mods to it and it is now perfect:
Side mount laser +1 magazine extension Squared off bottom of trigger guard fo give more room Squared off the front of the trigger guard and checkered it Painted the sites with orange and green glow in the dark paint It rides in a desantis nemesis quite well and due to being so small, it sits deep enough in even the shallowest of pockets. I find that the side mounted laser breaks up outlines very well. 8+1 of 32acp is a good backup to my full size 9mm's or 45acp's. If I ever run into a P3AT in chrome, I will probably snap it up just because. Until then, I really love my little P32.

The very small Seecamp is what I carry in my pocket. A great gun.
