I converted a walk-in closet to a gun room, that I call my “war room”. Double locks on a solid door. (Wouldn’t stop a thief, but keeps the grandkids out) All my firearms, ammo, reloader and supplies are kept there. I keep other items of value in there, so I enter it around five times a week.

About once a day. I like to check that everything that needs to be unloaded and safe is. And what needs to be ready to roll is.

You only open it when you NEED a gun eh? When someone's in your house attacking you? So, you've either never opened it or maybe once - which is it?

I'm with WIL TERRY on this. What is the purpose of your poll?

My gun safe's are in my home office/work space. If I'm home during the day, particularly if in the office, I open the doors to the safe's for several hours per day. It helps air circulate inside and helps reduce moisture. I close them at bed time, when I leave, or if company comes over. It is just my wife and I at home now. Kids are grown and out of the house.
I may, or may not get anything out. It just depends, but I have a large window that opens to a wooded area behind the house. It wouldn't be unusual for me to get in a little dry fire practice on squirrels, or birds outside the window with one of the rifles. I voted 5 times/ week. Probably about average although there may be times where I may go a week or longer without opening the doors, and other times where they are open every day for weeks. |

I'm down to 3 handguns. One is always on me. I use the others for dry fire or the range. Typically in the box 2 times per week on average of late. Most of those are for dry work.

I like Dremel's poll.
Not all information need be utilitarian in nature. Sometimes information just for the sake of information is enlightening and interesting. As someone who studied ancient history and kept hearing people ask me, 'what the heck are you going to do with that degree?', I can appreciate esoteric or eccentric perspectives. BTW, there is an awful lot that one can do with a liberal arts degree.

I said 4 times a week, as an average. Sometimes I just like to admire my guns so I open the safe. Wish I was able to shoot more often ao the number was higher.

It stays open unless I'm leaving the house unoccupied. When I'm home, who am I locking it from?

Once a month, wipe over all of them...more if range trips are done.

2 safes, one gets opened every week or two, sometimes three. The other approximately 5X/week. The more frequently opened one has more in it than just firearm related stuff, thus the need to get in it more often. (My carry weapon is always on, or right by me.)

That and there are some useful value/judgement questions hinted at in the question.
How often do you check to make sure something isn't missing? How often do you double check that you put them away "right" i.e. unloaded or however is "right" for you. How often do you maintain locked up or non-EDC firearms? How often does an average person work the machinery on a safe/etc. so how much stress testing should it hold up to? |

Since the poll included "cabinet" I answered 2x per day. Once in the morning to remove a pistol and carry it, and once in the evening to put it away. I'm surprised 2x isn't getting more votes.

If I'm home, the safe is open. Locked when I'm not.

I keep my safe locked at all times except when I have to exchange guns or grab something else I keep in the safe, i.e. cash or paperwork. I go to the range at least three times per week and try to rotate my arsenal so that everything gets shot in a rotation. Those guns that get shot do not go back until they are cleaned and the next rotation comes out.

My carry gun is never put away, and except for going to the range, I have no need to open the gun closet.
