How much did you pay and is it matching? I have a chinese that shoots extremely well. Wish i was a little older as i missed the boat on the cheap SKS's.

Nice rifles. I have a Russian 1951.
Biggest word of wisdom is to clean the barrel and gas system VERY well if you use any corrosive ammo. Oh, and don't expect great accuracy and you won't be disappointed. |

customaquatics. Congratulations having the original type, which has no clunky grenade launcher, a chrome-lined bore, attractive wood which is harder than the Chinese choa, and the wicked blade bayonet. You have the best combination of features, in my opinion.
If not yet convinced, maybe some remarks on the Russian forum at SKSboards can better illuminate the situation. The minor savings on corrosive Yugo ammo, versus Non-corrosive Russian, does not make it worth the burden of so much constant cleaning to avoid corrosion of the bore, chamber, bolt face, gas tube and piston. Most SKS owners don't realize this, but no permanent alteration is needed to install a Tech Sight. My Norinco is now much more accurate. The only regret is not buying the sight much sooner. |

Nice looking rifle, I'm jealous. Now you're going to have to get some cheap ammo. I bought a bunch of Wolf Military Classic ammo awhile back for I think $4.15/box from AIM. Might not be as cheap as it once was but still cheaper to shoot than anything else I own short of .22lr.

Incidentally, for a nitpicky rant, "1954R" doesn't really make any sense.
The receiver cover will say something like "1954г" so sometimes people will just substitute the Russian letter "г" for the English "r" just because they look alike. So I guess that's ok. It should be noted however that the Russian "г" makes the "g" sound as in the word get. The "г" in "1954г" stands for "год" which means "year." Using the upper case "R" makes no sense because it doesn't either look or sound like what's on the receiver cover!
