Gun in a fire

A fiend of mine house burnt his 30-30 win leaver was in the house. It dint burn the wood off just black up the wood he is going to keep the guns. The question is he wants to refinish the steel with a low cost finish that is easy to do. All this is is just a woods rifle used to hunt deer twice a year.

Complete disassembly is easy. Reassembly is easy if you have a book with the instructions.

I'd just wipe down thoroughly with fine steel wool and then spray the frame and the barrel plus the lever and the buttplate with brake cleaner or starting fluid, and then use one of the cold blues available from a gun store.
