How good is Ruger Security Six?
I have found a used security six in a local shop. I want to know how well were these models made. Thanks.

Damn fine gun! Not the prettiest, but rugged and reliable. Lots of LEOs used to carry them.

Best buy in a medium frame revolver. Stronger than a K frame magnum Smith and Wesson. Here is my Police Service Six 4 inch. This is the fixed sight version. This revolver was the competition to the famous model 19 Smith and Wesson in law enforcement.
Good luck, roaddog |

How good is a SECURITY SIX?
Over the years, when Ruger made them, I owned 2 stainless Security Six.
I am the type person who likes HOT LOADS. I like to compare it to the old Smith & Wesson "N" frame models 27 and 28 .357 Magnums. They were build EXTRA STRONG. I put the same hot loads, that I shot in my 28 through the Security Six. The Security Six loved the loadings. I want the 2 3/4 inch the kid up the stree stole from me back in 1983!!! |

If I could find one would buy in a minute. Seems like people are holding on to them and the ones that are for sale have a very high price

I've owned several and prefer them to the new Ruger DA by a wide margin. I read some where that they were too expensive to make and the GP-100 is the cheaper way to do it. I believe it because the old SS had soul, the new revolver doesn't. YMMV!

The story is told about the Ruger salesmen throwing them around the range and then driving over them before shooting them.
Bill Ruger said in an interview that he figured they'd never made a penny off the Speed/Security/Service-Six series if you counted all of the design and develpment costs and such. They were too expensive to make and could only be sold for as much as the market would bear given what the competition was selling for. I've had a Service-Six since '85. John |

I don't think I have ever heard anyone say a bad word about a Security Six. I've got two and wish I had more.

IMO, The best Handgun Ruger has ever made. I have a Speed Six variant, and without a doubt, my favorite revolver.

I love mine. Just feels right in the hand.
It is a blue 4" Security Six. I have been looking for a 2.75" barreled one. |

I'll be picking up this 2 3/4" one from my dealer in the next few days. Just waiting for its little brother, a target grey SP101, to arrive.

I bought one 90 days ago for $325, and had serious buyer's remorse. Now, I would buy as many as I could find for that price.

tough
This is a heresay story, I was not there, but it came from some reliable sources who supposedly were.
FLETC in Glyco GA, supposedly shot Ruger Sec. 6, various Smith K frames (I don't think the L frame was around yet) side by side, torture test style, and supposedly, the ruger sec6 outlasted the others by a wide margin. Ammo was likely the .38 +P+ "Treasury Load". Also, The Border Patrol issue revolver for a while, was 4" Security 6. I had one, but just had to have a Blackhawk, and traded it away. |

The Security Six was Rugers attempt to move into the direct head-to-head competition with Colt and Smith & Wesson at the time. I don't think they quite made the transition with that revolver and really their firearms were not "nearly equal" to the competition until the GP100 and SP101 came out and are huge successes in the market.
They are tough revolvers if that is what you're looking for priced at the time at a very competitive pricing point relative to the competition. There are those that really like that revolver. |

Best DA revolver Ruger ever made by far. I'm a S&W guy but love the Security Six.
