I have a S&W Performance Center Model 945. It is a great gun, although not really a true 1911. I would really like to put a fiber optic front sight on the gun. Does anyone know whether the front dovetail is "standard 1911" dimensions?

jfrancis, IIRC I read where you own the 4" version that has the Novak rear? anyways... I'm looking at my lightweight 3-3/4" 945 and my guess is thats its S&Ws standard dovetail cut- don't know if that'd be different than a 1911 style cut. Contact Novaks http://www.novaksights.com and I'd bet they can give you the correct answer. HTH

Jfrancis, there really isn't a "standard" dovetail for the 1911. The dovetail for the front sight is cut to accomodate the sight manufacturers choice in angle, depth and width. A lot of smiths will install a fiber optic insert in your front sight. I do it in my shop. I charge $25.00 and I think I'm about average on that so I would expect that's about what it would cost you to have it done. George
