Pre 64 Winchester

I have an older Winchester and want to know what is the best thing to put on the wood stock to preserve and protect the wood? I don't want to ruin the value of the rifle by putting something on the wood that I will regret. How about wood furniture polish? How about boiled linseed oil? Any educated ideas?

Scott's Liquid Gold. Wipe it on, let it sit for a while, wipe it off.

pre 64 Winchester

Hi Natman! Thanks for the tip. This is the first real collectable rifle I have ever owned and I don't want to do anything stupid. I have read lots of stories of people that bought an old firearm and "cleaned it up" and ruined it. I don't want to make the same mistake. Thanks again! Ken

P.S. Remember the old caution about storing "oil soaked rags" in a metal can to keep them from catching on fire? This is that kind of oil, so be careful.

Otherwise it's the greatest for oil finished wood.

Scott's Liquid Gold works well for cleaning up the wood and giving it a glow. Johnson's Paste Wax will keep it that way.
