It appears in snippets in Hatcher's Notebook, Lyman's manual and other places. Rinker's book, Understanding Firearms Ballistics is another. The study of projectile design from the standpoint of aerodynamics is not trivial. McCoy's Modern Ballistics is the most rigorous work to read for that and it includes some history of ballistics as a discipline, but you will need at least a third level education in the calculus to follow its math.
There are collectors of ammunition, and if your interest is in learning the ammunition variants and their history, they may be good to consult.
