Bond derringers

What do you have on feelings for the 'Bond' derringers? IMHO, they would make a good CCW gun. If you can't deal a bad guy in two shots you shouldn't be carrying. just sayin'

They are as big as a 5 shot 38! Heavier, too. Single action, hard to cock, bad trigger.

I had one for a while. Bought it brand new thinking it would be a good little snake gun to carry in my pocket. It was very beefy and heavy, fit & finish were very good. The trigger however was crap, about 10 lbs. Found I couldn't hit anything with it past a few feet. Ended up trading it.
Of course YMMV.

I have one in 45LC, very well made and hold over 700 #12 shot. Great pistol to carry while fishing.

They are quite large and heavy, I generally will carry a compact semiauto over it if I think I might need it for something other than snakes.

A co-worker bought one and wanted to try it with factory .45LC loads (not powder puff Cowboy Action loads, not heavy Buffalo Bore blasters). IIRC, he fired one round and that was enough.

In my opinion, it is a niche gun, similar to the Judge, and attracts the same type of buyer. I know four people who bought Judges (one is the guy who also bought the Bond derringer). All are convinced that the Judge is the best carjack gun made. I know for sure that one of them has actually fired a cylinder full. I have shot with three of the four. None is a very accomplished marksman (and I am being charitable).

If you can, try before you buy. You may like it, or you may decide that there are better options out there for you.

Bonds are heavier than many choice that have 6 or 7 shoots in a package thats quicker to fire in 9mm, 40 or 45acp. Oh yea , the bonds cost more than many other choice too. .

I have to agree with the others.......heavy, chunky, offensively heavy hammer AND trigger pull. At the same size and less weight there are better choices that would leave you with not only more shots, but shots that are considerably easier to make.

Another derringer thread from a while back:

SAT question:

If it takes 2 rounds to deal with a bad guy and there are two bad guys:

a. carry two derringers
b. carry a J frame
c. carry a semi
d. Why would you do choice 'a'

That being said - buy one for fun or cowboy side matches.
