Magazine question
I've got an older (early-mid 80's) Mossberg 500A sitting here. It has a dowel in the magazine, only letting my load two rounds there. I cannot unscrew the end of the magazine with my bare hands. Is there a trick to this, or is it required and safe to use a wrench or something?

While I can't help with the disassembly, I'll note that in some states it's illegal to hunt with a gun that can hold more that three rounds, most likely the reason that the dowel was put there in the first place. If you plan to hunt with the gun in one of these areas, this is something to be aware of.

To get the dowel out, remove the barrel, turn the gun upside down so that the mag tube is pointing at the ground, and shake it. The dowel will protude a little through the screw hole and you can remove it from there.

Thank you kindly. And no, I'm not hunting with it. Just gonna kill some clays.
