how do you remove a stuck case?

Was shooting the son's thompson center encore, when extracting the case which is 270 cal, only a 1/4 of case bottom came out, leaving the rest of the case stuck, was just wondering how to remove the rest of the case. Have never seen this happen before.

Assuming the casing is partially stuck in the chamber, obtain the appropriate size wooden dowel rod--insert down the barrel from muzzle end and tap on rod gently to push the case out.

After you get the case unstuck find out why it stuck in the first place.
This has worked for me on a different rifle about the same size.

You'll get more answers when a Mod comes along and moves this to the appropriate forum.

I'm gonna suggest that if the bottom of the case is missing you should take the gun to a smith. You could use a rod if the case wasn't torn in half.

Guess I mis-read. If the bottom is separated from the rest of the casing, do as PEETZAKILLER suggests.

first check the rest of your cases for incepient head seperation, then go to brownells site & order the case removal tool .
it`ll make it so much easier it ain`t funny!!& it`ll work on that whole family of cases.
finally adjust your die as not to push the shoulder back so far ,extending case life on the new batch .

Quick and easy. Do a chamber cast with Cerrosafe and just knock the cast out with the separated case body using a cleaning rod. Or, if you feel very steady-handed, put a dab of 5-minute epoxy on a wooden dowel and insert it into the case from the breech end, wait 15 minutes, then tap it out with a cleaning rod.

Before Cerrosafe try a bronze brush.
Sometimes you can reverse the brush in the neck and catch the case.

If that fails, Cerrosafe works very well.

You may also be able to find use a .308 stuck case remover.

They used to be more common, but brass is good enough now they rarely get much attention.

Quick method. First, degrease the whole thing if you have tried any penetrating oil or lube. Push a bore brush into the chamber with the threaded end towards the muzzle. Next, run your cleaning rod down the muzzle and gently thread it onto the brush. Twist the cleaning rod, try not to turn the brush. Then just push on the rod and the case should drop free. You need to use a brush that is a snug fit, but don't use one obnoxiously oversized, counterproductive. Just a snug fit is all you need.
