Trying identify an old new savage 116
My stepdad is gifting me his old hunting rifle.
It's an older pre accutrigger savage in .270 I can't figure out which model it is. It feels pretty light and has an internal box mag. It has a little SP marking on the barrel. The stock feels pretty cheap and sorta doesn't fit me that well (digs into my lower chest) but for now I just want to scope it and see what kinda groups I can get. Any thoughts, ladies and gents? |

Is it an older staggered-feed or a center-feed? Pre-accutrigger I would tend towards the staggered feed. Likely a model 110/111 (short actions would've been model 10/11). I have a 110 in 25-06 waiting to get buttoned back together. The 270 is such a nice shooting, versatile caliber and more than likely that gun is a shooter. I could take my pencil-barrel 25-06 with factory ammo and shoot 3/4" groups until the barrel got hot and they started stringing out.
